Each fall morning from mid-August through mid-October in the Dolly Sods Scenic Area, volunteers with the Allegheny Front Migration Observatory catch migrating songbirds in fine “mist” nets, make careful measurements, place uniquely numbered bands on the bird’s legs and release them unharmed.

Directions:
Turn LEFT (West) onto SR-32 for 3.9 miles
Turn RIGHT (East) onto CR-32 [Bonner Mountain Rd] for 1.0 mile
Turn LEFT (North) onto CR-32 [Red Creek] for 3.5 miles
Road name changes to CR-45 [Lanesville Rd] for .5 miles
Turn LEFT to stay on CR-45 [Lanesville Rd] for 76 yards
Turn RIGHT (East) onto CR-45 [Jenningston-Lanesville Rd] for 1.4 miles
Road name changes to Public Road 19 for 3.7 miles
Turn LEFT (North) onto Public Road 75 for 7 miles
Dolly Sods Wilderness will be on the left of the road, Dolly Sods Scenic Area on the right. Continue to parking lot opposite Red Creek Campground. The Observatory is reached by a short walk from the parking lot.
