Fairfax Stone Monument marks the beginning of the North Branch of the Potomac River and the location thought to define the original property holdings of Lord Fairfax. Though no longer a part of the West Virginia State Park System, the stone and surrounding green is among the most important monuments in the Mountain State. A line running north from the stone to the Mason & Dixon Line marks the western boundary of Maryland.
