Managers of this 140 acre preserve within the Monongahela National Forest are placing special emphasis on preserving the unspoiled appearance and eco-system of the area. Some 300 year old trees, within stands of virgin red spruce and hardwood, range up to 40 inches in diameter. The Gaudineer Scenic Area was recognized by the Society of American Foresters as an outstanding example of a vegetative community in its near natural condition.
