Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge
A 6,700 acre refuge located within the 14 mile long, five mile wide Canaan Valley, the highest valley of its size east of the Rocky Mountains. The refuge is the largest freshwater wetland area in southern Appalachia, established to protect the valley’s extensive ecosystem which includes many unusual and rare plants. More than 580 species of plants and 290 species of mammals, birds, reptiles and fish are resident in the area. Directions: Go North from Elkins on US-219 [Randolph Ave] for 34.7 miles Turn RIGHT (South) onto SR-32 [Spruce St] for .4 miles Keep STRAIGHT onto SR-32 for 3.3 miles Road name changes to Camp 70 Rd
