Within one hour or less driving time from Roads End, enjoy activities such as mountain biking, hiking, caving, horseback riding, rafting, swimming, skiing, fishing, hunting (license may be required) kayaking, rock climbing, golfing, bird watching, and train rides through our state forests.

Also visit Blackwater Falls State Park, Seneca Rocks, Seneca Caverns and Smoke Hole Caverns.

As the snow begins to fall, you can enjoy a trip to Canaan Valley, Timberline, Snowshoe and Silver Creek resorts.

If you are into stargazing, Blackwater Falls has an annual Astronomy Seminar every Fall for amateur astronomers. This is held by the Kanawha Valley Amateur Association. Within 2 hours drive is the National Radio Astronomy Observatory located in Greenbank, WV. Here the GBT is being assembled which is the largest fully steerable radio telescope in the world.

Annual cultural events include the Augusta Heritage Festival at nearby Elkins. The festival features 5 weeks of traditional Appalachian crafts, music and dance at Davis and Elkins College.

At the peak of the Fall colors, you can enjoy the foliage by driving through our many scenic byways, or drive across the Appalachians through Dolly Sods, Cranberry Glades, Spruce Knob, or Cheat Mountain. In October each year the annual Mountain State Forest Festival takes place in Elkins which is a celebration of the beauty of the Autumn colors.

In nearby Thomas, Davis, and Elkins, experience unique specialty shops that exhibit and sell local crafts. Visit the many antiques shops in the area.
