Occurring right after the Phillipi races in which Confederate soldiers were routed from the town of Phillipi, the Battle of Laurel Hill lasted six days. After Confederate General Garrett, the first general killed in the Civil War, went down, Union troops ultimately prevailed in this decisive encounter.

Bear RIGHT (North-West) onto US-250 [SR-92] for 6.3 miles
Turn RIGHT (East) onto Shank St [Shanks St] for .1 miles
Bear LEFT (North-East) onto Hetzel St [Hetzel Ave] for 109 yards
Road name changes to Serpell Ave for .4 miles
