Plunging five stories over craggy rocks, the amber-colored waters of Blackwater Falls are the result of tannic acid from fallen hemlock and red spruce needles. Twisting and turning through an eight-mile long gorge, the falls are one of the most photographed sites in West Virginia. Over 200 steps along a custom built causeway make it very easy for visitors to walk to the base of the falls and back up again.
