For railroad enthusiasts, on the New Tygart Flyer, one of three trains run by the Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad, you’ll ride in climate-controlled passenger cars through one of the wildest mountain wilderness areas anywhere. The four hour round trip features passage into a 1500’ deep canyon, a bridge over rushing Shavers Fork of the Cheat River and landing at the “High Falls of the Cheat,” a 18’ high waterfall seen only by visitors willing to make their way to this remote and pristine setting. Hard-core train buffs can also take the Cheat Salamander which departs 30 miles south of Elkins. Enjoy the railroad related items in the Rail and Train Store.
