Now over 919,000 acres, it’s hard to describe all the features of the Monongahela National Forest. For starters, there are 500 miles of trails, 230 species of birds, 90% of the trout fishing waters in West Virginia and Spruce Knob, the highest point in the state. Five federally designated wilderness areas, 75 species of trees, 12 rivers, and a timber program that averages 30 million board feet per year, round out the program.
